The former Georg Placke shipyard was located in Aken an der Elbe , a shipping town with a long tradition in shipbuilding , inland shipping and port operations.

The Kreuter shipyard , founded in 1795, was later taken over by Georg Placke . By 1972, he and his successors had delivered well over 400 inland vessels. In 1972 the shipyard was expropriated and returned to the family in 1991 after the reunification of Germany . The company was closed in 2014.

The company premises covered around 14,000 square meters. The shipyard consisted of two production halls, four gantry cranes and a cross slip system with a length of 85 meters. The field of activity consisted of the construction of work and excursion boats as well as repairs.
