Shaikhan (also Arabic شيخان Shikhan , Kurdish شێخان Shekhan ) is a district in the northeast of Ninawa , which in turn lies in the northwest of Iraq , and is a main settlement area of ​​the Yazidis in Iraq. The district has been under the control of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region since the second Gulf War in 1991 and is treated as part of the Dahuk Province . It borders the Tel Kaif and Akrê districts of the Niniwa governorate and the Dohuk and Amediye districts of the Dahuk governorate to the north .
