Schinderhannes (acting)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schinderhannes is a play by Carl Zuckmayer about the life of the “Schinderhannes” robber captain Johannes Bückler . It was premiered on October 13, 1927 at the Lessing Theater in Berlin .

action

Zuckmayer's drama is based on the life story of Johannes Bückler, but without being completely historically correct. The play takes place in the Hunsrück during the French period around the change from the 18th to the 19th century. The main character is the Schinderhannes Johannes Bückler, who as the leader of a band of robbers steals from the rich and supports the poor farmers. He is in a relationship with Julchen, who also had a child from him. The Schinderhannes is betrayed one day and after his capture with 19 comrades he is beheaded in front of the wooden tower in Mainz . Despite her mourning, Julchen cannot hide a certain secret pride that more spectators came to the execution (“Fifteen thousand people!”) Than Napoleon Bonaparte had recently paid homage to in Mainz .

reception

The play was filmed in 1958 under the title Der Schinderhannes with Curd Jürgens as Schinderhannes and Maria Schell as Julchen. While the play was very well received by the audience, the criticism was rather negative. The Schinderhanneslied, composed by Zuckmayer and contained in the piece, also became known.
