Battle of Hysiai (669/668 BC)
The battle of Hysiai took place in 669/668 BC. Between Sparta and Argos .
Pausanias reports that the battle took place in the year when Peisistratos Archon was the eponym of Athens . This was the fourth year of the 27th Olympiad when the Athenian Eurybotos won the stadium run - in the year 669/668 BC. The fallen Argiver were buried in a polyandron (mass grave) near Kenchreai .
According to Eusebius of Caesarea , Sparta is said to be 719/718 BC. The Thyreatis conquered. The next logical step was to take possession of the important passport at Hysiai. However, this was successfully prevented by Argos. It was a bitter defeat for Sparta and it took some time to recover from it.
It has not been recorded that Argos was led to war by Pheidon , but it is concluded from the various traditions. This is how Pheidon is said to have hosted the 8th Olympic Games . It is believed, however, that the time is incorrect and that the 28th Olympic Games were originally intended. However, Pheidon could only lead the Olympic Games if he had decisively weakened his greatest adversary - the Spartans. For this reason, it is believed that this was the case through the victory in the Battle of Hysiai.
