Slaughterhouse (tortosa)
The slaughterhouse in Tortosa , a town in the province of Tarragona in the Spanish region of Catalonia , was built between 1906 and 1908. The building ensemble on Avenida Felip Pedrell is a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ).
history
The slaughterhouse was built according to the plans of the architect Pablo Monguió in the style of Modernism or Neomudéjar . A central building and additional pavilions, some of which are connected by covered galleries, were built on a 5500 square meter plot of land. The use of brightly colored ceramic tiles gives the building a playful look. Until 1997 the building complex was used as a slaughterhouse. After years of rebuilding and renovation, the Museu de Tortosa was opened in 2012 in the main building of the former slaughterhouse.
