Schlau Großhandels GmbH & Co. KG is a chain of German craft markets that offers interior design products for commercial customers such as painters, interior decorators, specialist dealers and craftsmen. It is the wholesale distribution channel of the Brüder Schlau GmbH & Co. KG , which has its headquarters in the East Westphalian town of Porta Westfalica .
history
In 1921 the brothers Theodor and Wilhelm Schlau founded a paint wholesaler in Minden. Maria Beeth, the daughter of the founder Theodor Schlau, continued the company. In 1955 the third generation joined the company with their son Eberhard Beeth and in 1971 took over the management of the wholesale business. Schlau was able to further consolidate its position as a wholesaler and today sells its products nationwide. Since 2006, Schlau Wholesale has also expanded through acquisitions. In 65 craft markets, Schlau offers regional craftsmen products for daily work and is one of the five largest market participants in the German paint and flooring wholesale trade. Today the family business is run by a management team.
In April 2015, the paint wholesaler Fritz Müller transferred its parts of the company as well as the operational property to the Brothers Schlau Group . The activities of Fritz Müller GmbH opened up new perspectives in smart wholesale.
On January 1, 2016, Schlau took over the Steffel Group , a flooring wholesaler with a national distribution. The takeover included Hometrend, INVER | IBS and DEKOWE. INVER | IBS is a specialized distribution unit in the carpet area. DEKOWE (Deutsche Kokoswerke) sells natural fiber floor coverings such as sisal or coconut carpets.

Schlau sells products from the range of paints , floor coverings , wallpapers , construction chemicals and tools for painters, interior decorators, specialist dealers and craftsmen.
In July 2017, Schlau added an online shop to its stationary trade .
