As Sly House of Oldenburg one is listed buildings at Castle Square in Lower Saxony Oldenburg called. The house was built in 1562 and is therefore the oldest surviving town house in Oldenburg. The building was rebuilt from 2010 to 2012 and expanded with a new building, and now serves as a public building for the dissemination of knowledge and technology of the region. In addition, the Oldenburg tourist information office was located on the ground floor .

Location and architecture

The building is located on Schloßplatz, in a central location in downtown Oldenburg. The oldest town house in Oldenburg, built in 1562, is a listed building. In 2009 it was classified as dilapidated and therefore in danger of collapsing, and since 2010 it has been restored and partially rebuilt. Behnisch Architects planned the construction. Building technologies such as geothermal energy , solar energy , air and light shafts, underfloor and ceiling heating and cooling, a high-pressure extinguishing system and a glass front were installed. In 2012, the house received the Fire Protection of the Year 2013 award for its specially designed fire protection concept. A chimney-like light gap extends through the entire building from the floor to the roof and provides the light supply and natural ventilation of the building. In addition, energy monitors were installed that show current and periodic consumption and yield figures, as well as presence sensors that regulate the lighting and ventilation. Thanks to these sustainable technologies, energy consumption could be reduced to a minimum. The construction of an actually planned zero-energy house could not be realized due to the monument protection.

Today the house has two event rooms and exhibition areas on two levels. The house extends over a total of seven levels and combines elements of new and old architecture.
