The sloe weevil ( Magdalis ruficornis ) is a beetle from the family of the weevils (Curculionidae).

features

The beetles are 2.2-3.8 mm long. The beetles have a black, matt basic color. The elytra are shiny fat. The first antenna segment is colored yellow-red. The throat plate has a rear-facing, finely toothed hump behind the center to the sides.

distribution

The beetle species is common in the Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe. It is common in Central Europe.

Way of life

The larvae develop in branches of fruit trees and shrubs belonging to the rose family (Rosaceae), including plum , blackthorn and rowan . The dolls' cradles often reach deep into the wood. The adult beetles appear from mid-April.
