Grinding grooves from Foteviken

The grinding grooves from Foteviken in Viken ( Höganäs kommun ) in Skåne in Sweden lie on two adjacent exposure plates . One outcrop is one meter high and has 60 grinding grooves (Swedish sliprännor or slipskåror ). The other is smaller and lower and has 11 grinding grooves. The larger one is more than two meters long and has relatively steep sides. The material is relatively porous sandstone , which is, however, significantly stronger than that of Gantofta .

The grooves, like probably those of Gantofta, were created by rotating wheels with a contact surface of at least four centimeters wide. Today it is believed that the curved gullies in particular, but probably also the straight ones, are traces of cult activities that had religious or magical significance.

The Fotevikens Museum is at the location .
