Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön-Rethwisch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön-Rethwisch line comes from the divided Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön line . It was founded by Joachim Ernst II (* October 5, 1637; † October 5, 1700) who was the third-born son of the Duke of Plön, Joachim Ernst, who received the Rethwisch estate in Stormarn as an inheritance. He became a royal Spanish general in the Netherlands and a Catholic in 1673. For his services he was accepted as Grande de España in the Spanish princes. He and his son and successor Johann Ernst Ferdinand married women from the Rhenish noble family Merode .

The Line raised legitimate claims to the succession in the Paragiat Duchy of Schleswig -Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön, but this was rejected by the Danish king, who was only liege lord of the Duchy of Schleswig . Johann Ernst Ferdinand (* December 4, 1684; † May 21, 1729) sued the imperial court responsible for the Duchy of Holstein and was right. He died with no living offspring.
