Joachim Ernst of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön (born August 29, 1595 in Sønderborg ; † October 5, 1671 in Plön ), also Joachim Ernst of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön , was the first duke of the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön , which emerged from a division of the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg .

Life

He was the second youngest son of Duke Johann of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg . As a teenager he made an educational trip through Europe, which is typical for young nobles , which took him to Holland , England , France and Italy . In 1617 he took part in the Friulian War . When his father, the first of the so-called separated lords , died in 1622, his duchy was divided among the sons, creating five other, smaller duchies. Joachim Ernst received Schleswig-Holstein-Plon, next to the new residential city Ploen included the offices also formed from säkulariertem monastery owned Ahrensbök and Reinfeld to his possession, he still earned in 1637 Kleveez ( "Clevetz"), in 1638 Pehmen ( "Pebmen" ) and in 1649 Stocksee . On the occasion of his marriage to Princess Dorothea Augusta, a daughter of Johann Adolf of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf , Joachim Ernst commissioned the demolition of the old Plön Castle in 1632 and had the Plön Castle built as a residence and seat of government from 1633 to 1636 .

Under the company name The Safe , he was accepted as a member of the Fruitful Society .

Shortly before his death, on January 1, 1671, he was awarded the Order of the Elephant (122nd bearer) by the Danish king in Copenhagen .
