Bernhard von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön (born January 31, 1639 , † January 13, 1676 in Plön ) was a German-Danish general . He was the fourth son of Joachim Ernst , the ruling Duke of Holstein-Plön, and his wife Dorothea Augusta von Gottorf and received military training.

Life

In 1672 he became the commander of the Brunswick-Lüneburg infantry, which, under Rabenhaupt, defended the city of Groningen against the Münsterland troops of Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen . Bernhard von Holstein-Plön commanded the infantry, Ernst von Stolzenburg the cavalry. (In 1674 a brother took part in the Battle of Seneffe . The troops were paid for by Juan Domingo de Zuñiga y Fonseca . So he came into Spanish service as a colonel and became Catholic!)

In August 1675 he came back to Plön. In 1675 the House of Holstein-Gottorp had to leave Oldenburg and Delmenhorst to the Danes. On October 25, 1675 he became Danish major general when Christian V was busy with the Pomeranian campaign against Sweden in 1675/76 . On January 8, 1676, he died of a sudden fever in Plön. Johann Adolf , his older brother, succeeded him as field marshal of the Danish troops in Pomerania.
