The Kannenburg lock , also known colloquially as the Kannenburg lock , is located at kilometer 3.60 of the Templiner waters in the extreme southwest of the Uckermark district in the town of Templin in northern Brandenburg . A first lock was built on the site as early as 1795. The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible.

Blocking

After the assessment by the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering in November 2017, the Kannenburg lock was closed with immediate effect due to irreparable damage to the wooden sheet pile walls of the lock chamber. It is the entrance gate to the popular Templiner waters. Sufficient stability can no longer be demonstrated and an unforeseeable, spontaneous failure could endanger boats in the lock. The Kannenburg lock has been closed to all shipping since December 22, 2017 until further notice.

In September 2018, the construction project was initiated with a partnership agreement between the city of Templin and the Eberswalde waterway shipping office. The municipality is building the new lock for the federal government. The federal government assumes all costs. The reason for this unusual measure is not sufficient own planning capacities. At the end of September 2019, the first preparatory work for the replacement of the lock began. The lock is partially filled to provide a working level for construction vehicles. Construction roads on the lock area are laid out. The preparatory construction work took about two weeks. Ground investigations were carried out from mid-October. This lasted until the end of 2019. This was followed by bombings by the ordnance disposal service of the state of Brandenburg. The cost of backfilling was around € 100,000 and was borne by the federal government.

The first comprehensive economic development of the Templin waters took place in 1745. The Templin waters consist of the Templin Canal, also known regionally as Templiner Water , and several lakes. The waterway can be reached via the Upper Havel waterway .

Building

The opening up of the Templin waters for inland navigation began in 1745. The first Kannenburg lock was built in 1795 as a simple chamber lock with sloping walls covered with grass and fascines for fastening, similar to an early bush lock . In 1838 the lock was extensively repaired from August 1st to the end of October of that year. In 1906 the Kannenburg lock was rebuilt, adapted to the Großfinow dimension with inclined walls, which were covered with stone slabs, based on a wooden sheet pile wall. The heads were built from bricks and partially covered with natural stone. The lock is closed by wooden mitred gates . The last usable lock length was 41.50 meters and the width was 5.30 meters. The average height of fall is 1.41 meters.
