Świerzno Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Świerzno Castle (Polish name: Dwór myśliwski) owned by the von Flemming family is a half-timbered building from the years 1718–1730. It is located in Świerzno ( Schwirsen ) in the powiat Kamieński ( Cammin i. Pom. District ) in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship .

Castle complex

Bogislaw Bodo von Flemming had the system built by the carpenter Johann Andreas Hase from Stargard in Pomerania . It consists of three wings. The central building and the west wing were the residential buildings, while the east wing housed the stables.

In the central building is the dance hall with a wooden mirror vault that extends into the roof structure. A painted parapet and figures of musicians who were brought in in 1728 can be seen on the vaulted walls.

Świerzno Castle stood empty for a few decades after the Second World War and was becoming increasingly dilapidated. Parts of the castle have been secured and rebuilt since the mid-1970s. A visit is partially possible.

Castle Park

At the entrance to the park there are two octagonal half-timbered houses, one of which, the two-storey caretaker's house from 1660, was the mansion of Flemming's Part I before 1716.

The castle park is overgrown, but still worth seeing as it is the only French-type complex from the Baroque period in Western Pomerania. A stroll through the avenues of the park gives an idea of the strict geometry that defined the complex in the past. A dozen monumental oaks delimit the castle grounds to the west.
