Albeck Castle (2006)

The Albeck Castle is a rule building in Albeck in Carinthia .

history

Due to an imperial donation in 898 the area of Albeck in the Carinthian Gurktal came into the possession of the Counts of Friesach-Zeltschach, the ancestors of Saint Hemma , the founder of the Gurk Cathedral . They built Albeck Castle on the steep mountain slope of the Engen Gurk in the 10th century .

In 1043 Hemma donated the Albeck rulership with the associated farms and forests to the Gurk nunnery, which was dissolved again in 1070. After that, Albeck was in the possession of the Archdiocese of Salzburg for a short time and was handed over to the newly founded Diocese of Gurk , which enfeoffed a secular family with it.

Albeck Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1155. In the same century, 1194, the family of the Free von Albeck died out. After an inheritance dispute with related sexes, the Albeck rule finally came to the Gurk diocese in 1264.

From 1339 the office of the caretaker or bailiff existed for the first time at Albeck Castle. This exercised the jurisdiction over the peasants to “skin and hair” and “neck and hand”, demanded hand and tension services and the tithe .

In 1651, the caretaker Ulrich von Basayo repaired the now ruined castle. But the castle was demolished as early as 1680 and two kilometers away on the old Roman road in the direction of Sirnitz , the late baroque building, today's Albeck Castle and a farm building made of the stones of the castle were built. The current entrance gate of the castle is the old castle gate . Even a stonemason's mark can still be seen in the curve.

In 1800 the servant house was built as a Biedermeier stockl. The office of guardianship lost its importance in 1848 with the liberation of the peasants. From then on, the castle served as the episcopal forestry office and later as an apartment for forest workers' families. The structure gradually deteriorated.

From 1987 onwards, Albeck Castle was revitalized. After almost 1000 years of ecclesiastical rule, Albeck came back into the possession of a woman: Elisabeth Sickl bought the dilapidated building, which is a listed building, from the Gurk diocese and had it restored.

architecture

The baroque building has two floors and was erected around 1700 on a rectangular floor plan. The building is covered by a hipped roof. The facade still shows the incised baroque architectural decor in the form of corner blocks, window frames and cornices. The cladding of the arched portals with the double doors is chamfered. They were built using late Gothic spoils. The rooms on the ground floor are barrel vaulted and have stitch caps. The rooms on the upper floor show stucco field ceilings and partly contain late baroque furnishings.
