Burglinster Castle is located in Burglinster , a district of Junglinster in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . Today the castle houses restaurants and various event rooms.

history

In 1231, Countess Ermesinde of Luxembourg gave the castle as a fief to Beatrix von Linster and Dietrich von Fentsch, Seneschal of Luxembourg. The von Orley family owned the castle in the mid-14th century. In the 15th century, the von Orley, von Hammerstein and von Bettstein families lived in the complex, which expanded over time.

The beginning of the 1540s the castle was during the war between Charles V and I. Franz destroyed. Reconstruction in the Renaissance style began in 1548 .

During the clashes between France under Louis XIV and the Netherlands from 1682 to 1684, there was again destruction. Baroque extensions were made in the 18th century .

In 1968 the State of Luxembourg acquired the castle, which was restored until 1988. Since 1982 the association “Frënn vum Bierger Schlass” has been taking care of the cultural and touristic aspects of the Burglinster Castle.
