history

Bruck an der Aschach after an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674

A Bruck residence was built by the Schaunbergers around 1320. Hanns Vatershaimer was Schaunberg's nurse at Bruck and Erlach Castle . A document attests to Bruck in 1456. At that time, Hanns Vatershaimer was identified as the owner, who bequeathed the residence to his daughter Barbara. This brought the castle in 1494 as a marriage property in the marriage with Wolfgang Herleinsperger (Hörleinsberger). The property remained with the Herleinsperg family until 1609. Dietmar Schifer of Dachsberg Castle followed , who sold Bruck in 1617 to Baron Georg Achaz von Pollheim zu Puchheim. From this it went to Wolf Jacob Strauss. In 1646 Bruck is referred to as a castle. His daughter, the widow of Achaz von Pollheim, sold the castle to Johann von Verdenberg in 1647. In 1669 Georg von Kauthen acquired the castle, but exchanged it with Georg Graf von Sinzendorf for another property. Under the Sinzendorf family, the Bruck estate was combined with Peuerbach . Georg von Sinzendorf was convicted of a crime and lost all his possessions. These passed to the imperial court chancellor Dietrich von Strattmann.

The Meierhof was sold to Wolf Gessl on December 18, 1673 by Count Georg Ludwig von Sinzendorf.

Building history

As can be seen in the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674, Bruck Castle was a mansion that stood on a small elevation and was surrounded by a water-bearing ditch. The moat was fed by the Aschach . The building was three-story with smaller parallel buildings on both sides. One of these outbuildings shows a six-story clock tower. Access to the castle was secured by a gate to which a bridge led over the Aschach.

Parts of the castle were demolished in 1792. Only the main building remains of the castle. The gate tower, side building and the surrounding moat (since 1960) have disappeared.

Today the castle is hardly recognizable as a castle building. The building is three-storey and clad with yellow Eternit shingles like the adjacent buildings of the sports field. The original masonry has been preserved. The crooked roof also still exists. By breaking out windows and adding an extension on the left side instead of the living bay, the appearance has been changed a lot. The castle was used as a primary school until 1962. A beautiful avenue still leads to the castle today; the building is very much in need of renovation and revitalization.
