Château-Chinon castle

The castle Château-Chinon , castle of the lords of Chinon, gave its name to the Burgundian city ​​of Château-Chinon . Originally built as a fortified castle in the 8th century , the castle became a bailiwick of the Dukes of Burgundy in the late Middle Ages .

In the 17th century, King Ludwig XIII. one of his advisers lock and title of Chinon. His descendants converted the castle into a baroque country residence in the 18th century . In 1789 the palace fell to the state during the French Revolution . He used it partly as a warehouse, and several halls were also used for representation.

Today, little more of the entire castle than the fortress walls and the cellar vaults under the crucifixion group on the Calvaire can be seen, but from there you have a wonderful view towards Nevers .
