The so-called Castle of Commanster ( French Château de Commanster ) is a mansion in the Commanster district of the Belgian municipality of Vielsalm in the province of Luxembourg . It was built in 1741.

description

The building was created by the builder Andreas Starck, who came from the nearby law , and the year 1741 is in the lintel. Right bluestone was mainly used in the construction. Inside there is an elaborately carved staircase. The client was Henri-François Baptist, magistrate at the court of the Count von Salm and temporarily mayor of Gouvy . It has not been proven that the building was used as an official residence.

During the Ardennes offensive in the winter of 1944–1945, the buildings were used as a command center for Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt . General Hasso von Manteuffel had also been in Commanster.
