Vielsalm (derived from Salm-la-Vieille) is a municipality in the Bastogne district in the Belgian province of Luxembourg .

The municipality consists of 23 villages, u. a. Vielsalm, Bihain, Commanster (German: Gomels, Gommelshausen ) with the Commanster , Petit-Thier and Grand-Halleux Castle .

The central town of Vielsalm is located on the Salm River , a tributary of the Amel . Northern neighboring municipality is Trois-Ponts , to the south borders the municipality Gouvy . To the east of the Vielsalm municipality are the villages of Recht , Rodt and Hinderhausen , which already belong to the German-speaking municipality of Sankt Vith .

Vielsalm has an express train stop on the Luxembourg Northern Railway .

The former barracks of the Belgian Ardennes hunters are located in the Rencheux district
