history
Saint-Léger and Maix-le-Tige were first mentioned in 1255 as Saint-Ligier and Mers . Saint-Léger owes its name to Saint Leodegar . The name of Meix-la-Tige ( German Meix , to distinguish it from the neighboring village Meix-devant-Virton ) indicates the German-French language border running between the two places, similar to the Lorraine villages of Audun-le-Tiche ( German- Oth ) and Audun-le-Roman .
Until the annexation by France (October 1, 1795), the municipal area belonged to the medieval German Empire ( county or duchy of Luxembourg ), then to the newly formed French department of Forêts . After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 it was awarded to the newly founded Kingdom of the United Netherlands . The municipality has belonged to the Kingdom of Belgium since the Belgian Revolution in 1830 .
