The Salm is a tributary of the Amel in Belgium in the province of Liège . The Salm is part of the catchment area of the Meuse .
The source of the Salm is in the High Fens near Commanster , near the former Belgian-Prussian border.
The Salm initially flows in a south-westerly and westerly direction until it bends north at Bovigny . It maintains this direction in its further course, which leads it through Salmchateux , Grand Halleux and Vielsalm , to the confluence at Trois Ponts .
The Rivage – Trois Ponts railway runs along the Salm between Bovigny and Trois Ponts .
