The current building stands on the site of a medieval castle. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Prince-Bishop of Basel , Johann Konrad von Reinach-Hirtzbach , commissioned the architect Pierre Racine from Renan to build a spacious summer residence .
Some parts of the building are now used as a kindergarten and primary school.
