Ericsberg Castle is a castle near Katrineholm in Sweden . It is located on a small hill on Kårtorpssjön. It is a four-wing baroque building of three floors with a central building without an inner courtyard. On the south side of the castle there is a terrace with a fountain.

history

In the Middle Ages the place was known as Pintorp and belonged to Knut Nilsson from Bosgård. In 1508 the castle passed to the Gyllenstierna family. Erik Karlsson Gyllenstierna (1602–1657), Swedish Imperial Councilor, began building the castle named after him in 1650. After his death, his wife Beata von Yxkull (1618–1667) and their son Kristoffer Gyllenstierna (1639–1705) continued the work. Nicodemus Tessin the Elder will be involved in the completion of the building . Ä. attributed, although no document exists for it. In 1733 the local branch of Gyllenstierna died out and the property was sold to Florentina Hildebrand.

In the 18th century the castle gradually fell into disrepair. David Gotthard Hildebrand, owner since 1791, sold the property to the Barons Bonde, who had it repaired and beautified again from 1812 and still own the castle and the 16,700 hectare estate to this day. Orangery buildings were built around 1850. The architect Isak Gustaf Clason restored the corps de logis from 1896–97 . In the period from 1895 to 1905 the palace garden was expanded, including a maze of lime hedges.

Current condition

The castle, which has been classified as Byggnadsminne since 1965 , is now used as a conference and riding hotel. The castle park is open to the general public. The woodland belonging to the property covers more than 16,000 hectares. It is used for forestry.

Since around 2005 the family's precious collections (coins, books, paintings) have been sold in second-hand bookshops and at auctions.
