Gunnebo Castle
The Gunnebo Castle is located in the northeast of the Swedish municipality of Mölndal between the towns of Mölndal and Pixbo .
The history of the castle can be traced back to the end of the 14th century , when a large estate with an associated mill existed here, which was called Gunnebodher or Gunneobodhum . Thereafter, the court was in royal or ecclesiastical property. The present castle was built in 1784 by the wealthy merchant John Hall the Elder. He wanted to use it as a summer house.
The castle consists of a wooden main building and is surrounded by a magnificent park. Many of the original drawings by the architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg can now be viewed in the Röhss Museum in Gothenburg . The castle park is open to the public and the building can be visited on guided tours. The castle has been under monument protection as Byggnadsminne since 1963 .
Gunnebo Castle should not be confused with Gunnebo in northeast Småland .
