Hörningsholm Castle is a magnificent building on the northern part of the island of Mörkö in the Swedish municipality of Södertälje in the historic province of Södermanland . The castle is located on a hill with a wide view of the Baltic Sea bay , which leads towards Södertälje .

This strategically favorable location was the reason that the square was fortified as early as the 13th century. The castle's origin is the Symondöö estate, belonging to the Folkunga family, which was located on a small offshore island that grew together with Mörkö due to the uplifting of the land . In 1308 the estate belonged to Duke Erik Magnusson and thereafter it changed through sale and inheritance between various noble families such as Örnfot, Sture and Gyllenstierna. In an agricultural register from 1498 it is indicated that the estate has received the new name Hörningsholm. When the manor house got a castle-like appearance is not known, but in the late 16th or early 17th century it was supposed to be under Reichsmarschall Svante Sture the Elder. J. have received the condition shown in the work Suecia antiqua et hodierna . In 1719 Södermanland was ravaged by invading Russian troops, who also burned Hörningsholm Castle.

The present castle was built in the middle of the 18th century under provincial head Nils Bonde af Björnö based on drawings by Carl Hårleman . It was renovated on February 18, 1950 after a serious fire. Hörningsholm Castle is privately owned.
