The Lauterbach Castle is located in the village of Lauterbach , in the municipality of Neukirchen / Pleisse , on a hill to the southeast sloping surface between Neukirchen and Zwickau . It was built in 1884 in the neo-renaissance style as the manor of the Lauterbach manor. In the years 1907 to 1909 the interior underwent its largest and at the same time most important redesign to Art Nouveau , which raised the castle from the class of historicist mansions to the rank of a nationally remarkable cultural monument.

The object owes this importance to the drafts of the Belgian architect and designer Henry van de Velde , who gained international recognition through his work as director of the Grand Ducal School of Applied Arts and as artistic advisor for industry and handicrafts in the Grand Duchy of Saxony . The castle was owned by the Esche family until 1945 .

Some of the stately rooms and fixtures in the palace designed by Henry van de Velde have been preserved largely undamaged in their original substance.

The castle is surrounded by a small park (approx. 7,000 m²) with trees from the construction period and green areas and is part of the "Henry-van-de-Velde-Route".

The building has been privately owned since 2004. It is currently being renovated.
