Nagytétény Castle
The Nagytétény Castle ( German Schloss Großteting ) is located on the southwestern outskirts of the Hungarian capital Budapest .
history
The castle dates back to a 13th century Gothic castle owned by the Tétény family. The remains of this previous building form the core of today's castle. At its rear, the castle borders on the excavation site of the Roman Campona fort .
Nagytétény Castle got its current shape around 1766, when it was almost completely rebuilt for Baron Száraz based on the model of Gödöllő Castle . The multi-wing baroque building suffered severe damage in World War II , but extensive restoration was carried out in recent years . The castle now houses the Budapest Museum of European Furniture and Clothing and is open to visitors. The once baroque gardens have been preserved in their basic structure to the present day.
