Josef Hehenberger

Josef Hehenberger OCist (* 1940 in Stroheim ) is an Austrian Cistercians , missionary and Altabt the Cistercian abbey Jequitibá .

Act

The Cistercian from Schlierbach Abbey went to Brazil as a missionary in 1966 . After assignments in Jequitiba monastery , he became pastor in Jacobina ( Bahia ) in 1979 , and founded the youth protection center Fazendinha JJJ to get the children off the streets and to increase their self-esteem. You should become so responsible citizens. Because of his social commitment, he was put on the death list of large landowners in 1989. From 2004 to 2014 he was abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Jequitiba. During an extraordinary visit by Abbot General Lepori on March 21, 2014, Hehenberger announced his resignation as Abbot.

Award

In 2007 he was awarded the Archbishop Oscar Romero Prize of the Catholic Men's Movement in Klagenfurt.
