Mauro-Giuseppe Lepori OCist (born March 18, 1959 in Lugano , Ticino ) is Abbot General of the Cistercians .

Life

His family moved to Canobbio soon after he was born , where he grew up. He studied philosophy and theology at the University of Freiburg . In 1984 he entered the Cistercian Abbey of Hauterive , which belongs to the Mehrerau congregation . He made his temporary vows on May 17, 1986, and made solemn profession in 1989 . After his ordination on June 10, 1990, Lepori worked as a novice master . On May 16, 1994 he was elected 59th Abbot of Hauterive. The blessing he received on June 29 1994th

He became known through the publication of several books and articles in different languages, through lectures for different target groups and the leadership of retreats . According to the University Rector Bernhard Eckerstorfer, "along with Michael Casey OCSO, he is one of the best authors of contemporary monasticism."

On September 2, 2010, the General Chapter in Rocca di Papa elected him Abbot General of the Cistercian Order. His successor as Abbot of Hauterive was on September 14th 2010 Marcus Guilhem de Pothuau .
