Nordeck Castle

Nordeck Castle is a castle-like property in the Berum district of the East Frisian municipality of Hage in the Aurich district in Lower Saxony . The landowner and brandy distiller Edo Friedrich Peterssen had it built on his lands in 1868/69 in the style of historicism . Peterssen lived on the estate as a bachelor until his death in 1900 .

The name of the manor is a romantic modern creation based on the model of medieval castle names.

The large wall decorations in the interior of the building were created by Arthur Fitger , who came to East Friesland on the mediation of his friend, the march poet Hermann Allmers . On May 18, 1949, the castle burned down to the ground. A roof beam pulled through the chimney had ignited and caused the fire. The building was then rebuilt in a modified form. It is privately owned and cannot be viewed.

In addition to the manor house, the property includes an adjacent park, the mausoleum , a forester's house, an orangery and extensive forest areas.
