The Ostramondra Castle stands in the town Ostramondra on a former moated castle at the confluence of the river Schafau and cancer brook in the district of Sömmerda in Thuringia .

history

The Counts of Stolberg enfeoffed Hans Knauth in 1461 with the manor and 1700 acres of land, which was an economic basis for the maintenance of the moated castle .

In 1829 the moated castle came into civil ownership. Everything changed. A stone-built bridge now leads over the wide moat with the former drawbridge to the castle. The interior has also been modernized. This was followed as owners by the Counts of Beichlingen and the Bünau von Bischoffwerder and von Krosigk families .

The buildings are currently largely empty. The castle has been restored and is privately owned with the park.
