The Pettersheim Castle was a hunting lodge in the Palatine community Herschweiler-Pettersheim . It belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken .

investment

A Niederungsburg was originally located on the site. Possibly it was a moated castle. The later system consisted of the old and the new castle , which were assembled by building a wing. The castle also had a large park that was built by Johann Ludwig Petri .

history

The moated castle was built in the eleventh century and was first mentioned in 1387. In 1539 a small Renaissance style castle was built on the site . This was dilapidated again in 1683. In 1723 a new building was built, designed by the Swedish architect Jonas Erikson Sundahl .

Already in the years 1759 to 1768, however, almost the entire complex was demolished, while a new hunting lodge was built on the site. This was destroyed in 1793 by troops from the French Revolution , which had spread to Germany.

Current condition

Today only the buildings of the farm yard are preserved.
