It was built on the site of various previous buildings, which were documented as far back as 1268, and was built in 1535 and later expanded. history

Rosenbichl in a view by Valvasor (1688)

Rosenbichl Castle is essentially a Romanesque castle, but it has been redesigned over the centuries. Predecessor buildings of today's facility were designated as Puehlaren in 1268 and as Minzenbach in the 15th century . The residence and the hamlet of Minzenbach came into the possession of the Gradeneggers in the 14th century , who lent it to the Kulmer family. From 1535 they built a “new house” using older components, which was expanded in 1566 with additions.

The Kulmer remained the owner of the Rosenbichl estate until 1676, when they sold the residence and the associated lands to Johann Bishop von Sulzbach. Franz Andrä von Aschau acquired the property in 1681, and four years later it was taken over by the provost of Kraig, Johann Stieff von Cräntzen, who bequeathed it to St. Georgen am Längsee in his will . After the dissolution of the monastery, the ironworks Maximilian Thaddäus von Egger bought the monastery and the other possessions of the order at auction in 1786. The Egger family sold Rosenbichl to the Alpine Montangesellschaft in 1873 , and in 1889 the St. Veit lawyer Franz Prettner acquired the property and bequeathed it to the Elisabethinenkloster in Klagenfurt. In 1935 the complex was completely renovated and the building was extended.

The castle served as a rest home for the Sisters of the Elizabethine Order who worked in the health service; it has been privately owned since October 2012.

Building description

East facade of the castle

Rosenbichl Castle is located on a slope of the Buchberg north-east of the small town of Pulst. The complex is a three-storey late Gothic palace with two wings arranged at right angles to each other, to which a walled courtyard adjoins. During the renovation in 1935, the original character of the building as a typical country castle of the small Carinthian nobility of the Renaissance period was lost. There was a drawbridge in front of the simple stone gate that serves as access. To the east of the main building there are some recent farm buildings that were added later.
