Ruin of Schönrade Palace

The ruins of the castle Schönrade ( Polish Palac w Tucznie ) is located in Schönrade ( Tuczno ) north of Friedeberg ( Strzelce Krajeńskie ) in the north of the historical Neumark .

history

The first evidence for the place comes from a deed of lease for the village Klausdorf ( Kłębowiec ) from 1301 to the monastery of Bernstein ( Pełczyce ). In the land register of 1337 the Billerbeck are named as owners. In 1499 Schöning was enfeoffed with Schönrade and the neighboring village of Blumenfeld. In 1801 a fire destroyed the Schönrade manor.

From 1836 to 1945 the von Wedemeyer managed the estate. From 1897, the ensemble was supplemented by an L-shaped palace designed by Alfred Messel .

On January 29, 1945, the Red Army marched into Schönrade and freed 600 Russian prisoners of war in the farmyard of the estate. 16 German soldiers and the landowner were shot.

In 1966 the mansard roof was destroyed in a fire, as was the main house in 1979. Since 1990 the castle has been unused in private hands. The neighboring manor house was renovated.

Building

The castle , located on a slight hill, opens onto the park with a staggered main facade. A wide risalit leads to the mansard roof with a gable field . The exterior design of the palace is inspired by the palace architecture of the 18th century. The gable field shows symbols of agriculture and the art of war in its lower spandrels, in the middle the heraldic animal of the von Wedemeyers.
