Steinau Castle (Silesia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Castle Steinau / Oder ( Polish Zamek w Ścinawie ) was the castle rebuilt castle in Ścinawa (Steinau / Oder).

history

A ducal castle is documented for 1251, which presumably secured the passage over the Oder. This castle was probably a wood and earth construction and was only built up in the second quarter of the 14th century. It may also have been between 1274 and 1289, when Steinau was the ducal residence. In 1343, King Casimir the Great's troops destroyed the castle.

After further destruction in 1628 and partial demolition in 1757, a new castle-like building was built, which was replaced by Georgenhof Castle in the 19th century. As a result of the Second World War and the Polish takeover of the region, the castle was completely destroyed.
