history
Around 1600 the castle was built by the noble Grote family . The island of Stillhorn had been owned by this family that diked it since the Middle Ages. After Johann Grote's death in 1658, his four sons fought over the estate. In 1672, Duke Georg Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1624–1705) acquired the aristocratic property from the quarreling brothers. In exchange, the Groten brothers received the ducal domain Kirchhof, which was henceforth called Neuhof .
Georg Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg had the Elbe islands belonging to the estate dyed and named the place around Stillhorn Wilhelmsburg. The castle should serve his daughter Sophie Dorothea von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1666–1726) residence and the land for her maintenance. Sophie Dorothea was after Königsmarck affair on Schloss Ahlden banished. Her husband Georg Ludwig , who inherited the palace from his father-in-law in 1705, let it fall into disrepair. After the demolition, the office building was built on the foundation walls in 1724.
