Veltrusy Castle

Veltrusy Castle (German Weltrus ) is located in Veltrusy in Central Bohemia ( Okres Mělník , Czech Republic ).

The castle had Wenzel Graf Chotek von Chotkow built as a country castle in the Baroque style on an older complex in 1716 . It remained in the property of the Chotek family until 1945, the end of World War II . In 1764, under his son Rudolf Count Chotek von Chotkowa and Wognin, the originally short wings were expanded and the interior was expanded. In 1804 farm buildings were added, which together with the north wings of the palace form the courtyard. The castle is surrounded by an extensive park with romantic empire buildings. In the rococo- style rooms, furniture, pictures and glass chandeliers can be seen as well as a remarkable collection of porcelain and a number of handicrafts.
