The Waikhartsberg Castle , today Gut Waikhartsberg , is located in the district of the same name in the Waizenkirchen community in the Grieskirchen district of Upper Austria .

history

The first written mention comes from the year 1625; Ehrenreich von Pranckh is named as the owner . Since the castle is already known as a noble seat at that time, it is likely to have been built much earlier. Successor in possession was Christoph Helmhart von Weißenwolff. In 1680 he sold the castle to Count Leopold von Kueffstein (Kuefstein). In 1750 the property became the marriage property of Leopoldine, daughter of Count Priesgott von Kueffstein. In this way it came to Count Johann Weikhart von Spindler. Since he also owned the Weidenholz Castle, both goods were merged and Waikhartsberg followed all changes in ownership of willow wood for some time. Countess Maria Spindler brought both goods into her marriage with Count Johann Christoph von Gilleis. In 1857 General Graf Herrmann von Attems married both properties, but after a fire in Weidenholz in 1876 they sold both to Josef Aichinger, who removed Waikhartsberg from the joint property.

In 1926 the Upper Austrian provincial government acquired the property and equipped it as a farm for the agricultural winter school in Waizenkirchen. This was housed there for over 20 years. Under the next owner, Rudolf Pühringer , the estate was expanded into a hotel. Since 1968 the property has been owned by the Froßdorfer family under the name "Gut Waikhartsberg"; it is run as a farm and as a guest business. Major renovations are currently in progress.

There are remarkable tiled stoves and heraldic frescoes on the first floor.
