Weidenburg Castle in the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen

The Weidenburg Castle is located below the Weidenburg castle ruins in the southeast of the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen .

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1615, when the complex was sold by Paul Khevenhüller to Christof Khrayl. From 1630 until the middle of the 18th century the castle was owned by the Fromiller family. The three-story castle is a simple, three-story, cubic building with a hipped roof from the 16th century. A chapel is built in the east.

The chapel is a rectangular building with renewed parts of the wall and a re-bricked, square tower that cuts into the center of the choir. The tower has wall slots and segment arch sound windows. On the north side of the chapel there is a small room, which probably served as a sacristy . In 1994/95 the chapel was adapted and restored.
