Dinan Castle

The castle of Dinan consists of the donjon , near the gate Saint-Louis . The donjon and the gate are part of the 2600 m long medieval city walls that still surround the old town today.

John V , Duke of Brittany , began construction of the donjon in 1384. It is a tall, oval-shaped tower, separated from the outside of the city walls and the inner city by a moat. The machiculis (row of machicolations ) hang at a height of 30 meters.

The donjon now houses the city museum.
