Schlossberg (Großschlaisdorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schlossberg in Großschlaisdorf , part of Lunzenau ( Central Saxony district ), has a rampart from the early and early High Middle Ages.

Description of the plant

The Schlossberg is 400 m south of Göhren on an east-facing mountain spur between the Zwickauer Mulde and a side stream. The castle encompasses an irregular oval area of about 55 by 40 m and is surrounded by a surrounding wall as the remainder of the former fortification. Its outer height is 8 m in the west and 5 to 6 m in the east, in the north and south it stands directly above the steep slope. The inner height in the west is 3 to 4 m, otherwise 0.5 to 1 m. Upstream to the west is another section trench 8 m wide and 3 m deep and the rest of an outer wall 3 to 4 m wide and 1 m high. In the east, up to the Spornspitze, there is an area around 30 m long and 5 m lower, on which there is now a courtyard with several buildings. On the north side it has two trench-like incisions carved out of the rock, 4 m wide and 3 m deep. They probably stem from the medieval re-use of the site or a modern entrance to the courtyard.

Excavations and finds

So far, no modern scientific archaeological excavations have taken place on the Schlossberg . Several fragments of Yavian ceramics from the Leipzig district come from older, undocumented excavations , most of which are kept in the Rochlitz Castle Museum.

interpretation

The archaeologist and historian Gerhard Billig sees the castle on the Großschlaisdorf Schlossberg as a Yavian section fortification and, due to its location close to the wildland border in the south of the Burgwards Rochlitz, relates it to an early development of the country. The pottery finds, however, do not permit any comment on this dating and interpretation.
