Dyck Palace Library

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dyck Castle Library was a historical aristocratic library in Dyck Castle near Grevenbroich with a stock of around 16,000 volumes. The books that are now in one of the rooms that can be viewed cannot be traced back to the library that was scattered to the wind in the 1992/93 auction.

Under the title Fürstliche Bibliothek Schloß Dyck , the library was auctioned in two parts in 1992 and 1993 at Venator & Hanstein:

  • 66. Library of Dyck Castle. Auctioned on September 14th & 15th, 1992. 2546 catalog numbers.
  • 67. The Princely Castle Library Part II. Auctioned from March 24 to 27, 1993. 4577 catalog numbers.

This included the collection of the important botanist Prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck . Heinke Wunderlich had evaluated the books on nobility education in her dissertation . Critics viewed the undocumented dispersion of the high-level collection as a scandal.

As early as 1991, the University and State Library of Münster had acquired the Central Dutch manuscript , which has been in Dyck Castle since 1430, known as Dyck's manuscript . It is digitized for inspection. In the University and City Library of Cologne books from the library of Dyck Castle can be found in the collections of Jürgen Scholle and the collections of the Schmitz-Otto family. The University and State Library of Düsseldorf acquired a copy of Prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck's cactus and succulent catalog at the Venator auction.
