Injection wells are also drainage shafts known and are used for infiltration of water into the soil, thereby increasing the water table . Uncontaminated rainwater z. B. from roofs can be fed to the aquifer through the injection well and thus be available for later removal.

Particularly in the case of dense buildings, the seepage of unpolluted rainwater on site by means of swallowing wells relieves the sewage system and the sewage treatment works (with mixed sewer systems ) and reduces the risk of flooding.

Basically, an injection well can be constructed like a water extraction well .

In iron- and manganese-containing waters with a clogging to be those which can drastically reduce the recording performance of the well.

Sink wells are now used more frequently in connection with water-water heat pumps in order to return the water used for heat extraction ( heat pump heating ) to the groundwater . The intake well is set up from the extraction well in the direction of the groundwater flow and, depending on the flow velocity, at least approx. 10-15 m away in order to exclude a short circuit (a feedback) of the water flow.

Septic tanks are used to infiltrate wastewater in areas where no natural or artificial runoff is available or cannot be used.
