The word humiliating poem was added to the Duden dictionary in 2017 along with 5000 other words . It describes a poem that belittles and despises others .

An insulting poem ( IPA : [ˈʃmɛːɡəˌdɪçt]), plural: insulting · ge · te, describes a poem in the literature that consciously  mockshurts and mocks . The word is a determinative compound  from the stem of the verb to  abuse  and the noun  poem . Antonyms to this are Eloge  and Praise poem .

The expression is already documented in Goethe and Friedrich Rückert .

New modern history

From a modern perspective, the word achieved a renaissance in 2016 thanks to the satirist and television presenter Jan Böhmermann . The titled a lyrical poem with the determinative compound of poem and abuse. The subject of the verse was the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , who then brought an injunction before the German judiciary through his lawyer. The new name of the word prompted the Duden to include the term together with 5000 other words in their collection.
