Schmahlfeld's blacks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schmahlfelds Schwarze also Schmahlfelds Schwarze Herzkirsche or Schmahlfelds Braune is a black variety of sweet cherries belonging to the heart cherries .

origin

The variety was discovered around 1870 by a fruit farmer named Schmahlfeld near Werder and spread from there.

fruit

The fruit is medium-sized, rounded to broadly rounded. The soft skin is shiny black when fully ripe and it is very burst-resistant. The soft flesh is fully ripe, black-red, almost gelatinous, without aroma, with little sweetness and a distinct, slightly almond-like bitter tone. The juice is very coloring. The stone is medium-sized, rounded-oval, with a small tick, slightly narrowed on the stamp side. The stem is short, about 3 cm, thick and green, with a large stem attachment. It ripens uniformly in the 4th cherry week , so that the tree can be harvested in one go. Because of its bitter tone, it is particularly suitable as a canned fruit.

tree

The tree is healthy and robust, grows medium to strong with upright, bulky guide branches. The crown looks gnarled in older trees. It is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. It flowers mid-late, at the beginning of flowering together with stronger greenish leaves. The yield is high and regular. However, the strain is moderately susceptible to toad skin disease .
