Ernst Gotthilf of Troschke (* 6. December 1724 in Pogadova, Poland; † 20th January 1786 ) was a Prussian colonel , Knight of the Order Pour le Mérite and Lord to stave canon in Minden and Amtshauptmann of Karzig.

Life

origin

Ernst Gotthilf came from the noble Prussian family von Troschke , which has been mentioned in the New Mark - Silesian border area since 1311 and was wealthy there. He was the son of Otto Abraham von Troschke (1690–1749) and his wife Luise, born von Winning (1701–1774).

Military career

Following the family tradition, Troschke joined the Prussian Army as an officer candidate and became an infantry officer. He took part in the Seven Years' War and distinguished himself as Prime Lieutenant in the Meyerinck Regiment on foot in the Battle of Leuthen so that King Frederick II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite on December 8, 1757 for his bravery. After the war he stayed in the army, but made slow progress. In 1778, when the War of the Bavarian Succession broke out , he was a lieutenant colonel . In this uneventful campaign, however, he distinguished himself in the battle near Weißkirch in Austrian Silesia so that Frederick II awarded him the Order pour le merite again on November 27 or 28, 1778. According to the report, on November 26, 1778, the Austrians attacked an infantry riot of 400 men under the command of Lieutenant Colonel von Troschke from the surrounding heights in order to drive the Prussians out of Weißkirch. But they were turned away by Troschke's detachment and driven back with other Prussian troops deployed to help in a counter-attack as far as the village of Mösnick on the mountain. After the award of the order to the king, Troschke wrote in a letter dated November 29, 1778 that this order had been awarded to him in 1757 because of his bravura in the battle of Leuthen. The king then gave him 1000 thalers , whether as a replacement for the medal, which was awarded for the second time or in addition, is not known.

Troschke still reached the rank of colonel . He had already died in 1797 when his children and his brother Ernst Friedrich von Troschke (1741–1809), then a major in the von Grünberg infantry regiment, were granted a renewal of the baron class.
