history

The Balzer-Schmale house, known as the Schmalen Haus , dates from the 18th century and is located next to the Schmallenberg town hall. It was built on the remains of a hexagonal tower of the city ​​wall and survived the city fire of 1822. The building documents the construction of bourgeois housing in Schmallenberg before the great city ​​fire . In 1985/86 the building was renovated and expanded into the city ​​archive . The library of the Christine Koch Society is also housed in the premises.
