The narrow-necked barnacle ( Calathus erratus ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).

features

The black elongated oval ground beetle is 8–12 mm long. The antennae and legs are reddish brown. In contrast to Calathus fuscipes, there are pore points on the wing covers only in the third space.

distribution

The beetle species is found in the temperate zone of the western Palearctic . To the east the distribution area extends to Asia Minor, the Caucasus and Siberia. The species is absent in the extreme south of Europe. The narrow-necked barnacles prefer dry, sandy biotopes.

Way of life

The beetle lives under detritus and decaying plant parts.
