Friedrich Wilhelm Benjamin von der Osten-Sacken (born December 20, 1769 in Allenburg , † December 5, 1846 in Freienwalde (Oder) ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 3rd Infantry Brigade .

Life

origin

His parents were Johann Christoph von der Osten-Sacken (1744-1810) and his wife Anna Sophie, born von (Waschkau) Waschlowska (* November 3, 1751, † July 14, 1814). His father was a Prussian major a. D. , most recently trainee director in Graudenz . His uncle was the President von Sacken, Herr auf Furs in Courland.

Military career

Osten-Sacken was raised by his uncle. In 1789 he joined the Hussar Regiment "von Wolky" of the Prussian Army as a volunteer , but in 1791 retired from military service. In October 1794, Osten-Sacken returned to Prussian service and was employed in the infantry regiment "von Amaudruz" . During the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 he took part with his regiment in the battle near Wola.

On July 16, 1795, he enrolled as a student of law at the University of Königsberg . On December 13, 1797 he was promoted to ensign and on April 18, 1801 to second lieutenant. Nevertheless, he asked for his departure, which he received on February 5, 1805.

In 1806 he returned to the service and headed the organization of the 1st Neumärkische Reserve Battalion. Osten-Sacken became leader of the 4th company in the battalion and in 1807 took part in another campaign under Blücher . On December 30, 1807 he came with the battalion in Infantry Regiment No. 2 and on January 2, 1812, he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant . Osten-Sacken received his departure as a staff captain on May 4, 1823 with a pension of 120 thalers and the right to wear his army uniform. He then lived in Danzig .

On April 1, 1813, he was appointed major and commander of the 3rd West Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment by the West Prussian Estates and confirmed by the King on July 11, 1813. On August 1, 1813, he became commander of the 3rd West Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. During the Wars of Liberation , Osten-Sacken fought in the sieges of Torgau and Magdeburg as well as the battles near Luckau , Coswig, Werda and the storm on Dahme. For Magdeburg he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and for Dahme with the Cross 1st Class. On October 3, 1815 he rose to lieutenant colonel.

On May 18, 1816, Osten-Sacken joined the salaried tribe of the Danzig-Marienwerder Landwehr Infantry Regiment (No. 5a). On June 5, 1818 he was appointed commander of the 29th Infantry Regiment and in this capacity Osten-Sacken was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1822 with a patent from April 3, 1822 . In 1825 he received the service cross . On March 30, 1828 he came as a commander in the 18th Infantry Regiment and was commissioned on December 7, 1830 with the leadership of the 3rd Infantry Brigade. On October 20, 1831, he was released from the relationship. On March 30, 1832 he was appointed commander of the brigade and aggregated to the 18th Infantry Regiment . On March 30, 1833, Osten-Sacken became major general with a patent from April 1, 1833. With a pension of 1,800 thalers he received his departure on March 17, 1835 and in recognition of his services, King Friedrich Wilhelm III awarded him . on March 25, 1835 the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. He died on December 5, 1846 in Freienwalde (Oder).

Osten-Sacken married Elisabeth Jakobine von Auer (1772–1813) from the Lüdkenfürst family on February 18, 1805 in Filehne . The marriage, which was divorced on March 22, 1810, had the following children:

After the death of his second wife, Osten-Sacken married Maria Cäcille Ida von Hagen (1809–1878), daughter of Major General Hans von Hagen, on March 8, 1828 . The couple had several children:
